Handmade carpets and rugs are play the same role for a home décor is just like heart in a body. A handmade carpet gives a statement to a floor. It is only an accent which can change the entire space. Handmade carpets are woven in many fabrics and materials. Some carpets are woven in natural fabrics like pure silk, pure wool, jute; cotton etc. and some carpets are woven in synthetic fabrics like nylon, rayon, artificial silk etc. If you don’t have much knowledge about handmade carpet then you may catch in trap because there is a huge difference between natural fibre carpet and synthetic fibre carpet. Some people sell artificial silk carpet as pure silk carpet. If you don’t know the difference between artificial silk carpet and pure silk carpet or machine made carpet and handmade carpet then you may think that why handmade carpets are more expensive? So I am going to tell you some difference which will prove that a handmade silk carpet is thousand times better than artificial silk carpet.

1) Pure Silk:

Light as a feather but strong as steel — silk is world renowned as the most luxurious and fine material on the plant. It is a natural fiber made by the silkworm — coming mostly from China, Japan & India. Pure silk is a natural material. Wavers make threads using chakra machine. Pure silk carpet is exported by China. It has very soft touch and shine look. Silk yarn is very exclusive and gives a luxurious look and that’s why this is expensive than artificial silk carpet.

Artificial silk is a manmade fabric which is first time made by China and after that japan. It looks like pure silk but there is a huge difference. Artificial silk is just like nylon and rayon fabric.

Difference between constructions:

Handmade silk carpet is woven in hand knotted technique. It takes many months and some than more than one year to complete. This is woven using piles and knots. There are two types of silk carpet. First one is SILK on SILK and the second is SILK on COTTON. In silk on silk carpet, warp and weft both are in pure silk and in silk on cotton carpet, the weft is in pure silk but warp is in cotton. Artificial silk carpet is woven using machine. A real silk rug will have a high knot count. It should have at least 200 knots per square inch and most will have more than 500 knots per square inch. Because it has a high knot count, it should have a very intricate design pattern.

Difference between durability:

There is a huge difference between durability. The durability of a handmade silk carpet is approx. 10–50 years but an artificial silk cannot travel more than five year.

Difference between look of carpet:

A hand knotted silk carpet gives a royal and luxurious look. This is exclusive item and an artificial silk carpet is looks like a normal carpet.

After reading the difference between pure silk and artificial silk, it has been proved that pure silk carpet is much better than artificial silk carpet.
